The Instructional Design and Technology MicroMasters is offered by University of Maryland University College (UMUC) on edX. The program, which is similar to a graduate certificate, consists of four courses that each last eight weeks and are taught online in an instructor-led format. The focus of the program is on online teaching and learning, and it covers everything from contemporary learning theories and instructional design models to online course development and emerging technologies that support online learning. The culminating experience for the program is for students to design their own online learning experience. The program provides an expedited pathway into the M.S. in Learning Design and Technology at UMUC as students who complete the program can use it to count for 12 credits toward the full master’s degree if they are accepted into the program.
